Provide First Aid
Overview
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in various situations, including in the community and workplace settings.
Topics Covered
Manage an unconscious casualty, an understanding of the biology and function of the human body to provide First Aid for asthma, anaphylaxis, heart attacks, bleeding control and wound care, burns, fractures, head and spinal injuries, diabetics, shock, bites and stings, choking.
Performing CPR on manikins and following the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Legal issues and documentation when providing first aid
Upon completing this course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment that is nationally accredited.
Our Provide First Aid course satisfies three competency units from the Health Training Package (HLT07):
HLTAID009: Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
HLTAID010: Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
HLTAID011: Provide First Aid
This course needs to be renewed every three years, and the CPR component every 12 months.
Time Duration
Around 6 hours + Pre-course online learning to be completed before attending. Allow up to 2 hours to complete these online quizzes.
Assessment Blended Delivery
Theory-based multiple-choice questions completed online prior to the training day.
Practical scenarios undertaken during class.
To be deemed competent, participants must be able to perform CPR on a manikin on the ground for 2 minutes.
Students enrolled in “Provide First Aid” must complete pre-course learning and attend a full-day course with their trainer.
The online pre-course learning consists of presentations and multiple-choice questions to prepare students for further training and assessment. The precourse education can be conducted in class with the trainer if organised beforehand.
When you enrol in your first aid course, you will be emailed your login automatically for the online pre-course learning, and you can start it immediately.
